South Holland is the most densely populated province in the Netherlands. The traces of its rich history are still to be found in ancient towns like Leiden, Delft, Gouda and Dordrecht. The centre of the province is the Green Heart of the Netherlands, an expanse of meadowland and polder, criss-crossed by canals.
